IF YOU WILL BE SANCTIONING EVENTS

Promoter Charter

Commercial organizations that are not organized as clubs may become AMA-chartered promoters. AMA-chartered promoters are eligible to sanction AMA events. A representative must complete the AMA Risk Management Workshop before holding AMA-sanctioned events.

  • New promoters or promoters who have not renewed their charter for two or more years must submit two letters of recommendation from business associates or organizations in their community (on company letterhead stationery)
  • The organization is required to have a principal officer
  • Officers of promoting organizations must be current AMA members
  • Charter application is required annually and expires Dec. 31 of the calendar year
  • The fee for being an AMA-chartered promoter is $250 per the calendar year

Club/Service Club Sanctioning Charter

Clubs, including service clubs, who want to sanction events. A representative from the club must complete the AMA Risk Management Workshop before holding AMA-sanctioned events. Service club charters are available for organizations that specifically fall under motorcyclists’ rights, military, police, fire or charity. They provide a service to the motorcycle community/others through their organization and plan to host AMA-sanctioned events.

  • All club officers must be current AMA members
  • Including officers, the club must have at least 10 current AMA members
  • Two letters of recommendation, printed on company letterhead, and a copy of club Constitution and By-Laws are required to be submitted by first-year applicants or clubs that have not renewed their AMA charter for two or more years
  • The charter fee is $100 per the calendar year for a club and $50 per year for a service sanctioning club

Service Promoter Charter 

Service Sanctioning Charter is for commercial organizations who want to sanction events. A representative must complete the AMA Risk Management Workshop before holding AMA-sanctioned events. Service charters are available for organizations that specifically fall under motorcyclists’ rights, military, police, fire or charity. They provide a service to the motorcycle community and others through their organization.

  • All officers must be current AMA members
  • Two letters of recommendation, printed on company letterhead, and a copy of club Constitution and By-Laws are required to be submitted by first-year applicants or clubs that have not renewed their AMA charter for two or more years
  • The charter fee is $150 per the calendar year

IF YOU WILL NOT BE SANCTIONING EVENTS

Social Club Charter

For enthusiasts who ride together, be it road or off-road, but don’t intend to host formal events for non-members. The requirements for this club are:

  • At least five current AMA members must be listed on the application
  • These clubs cannot host sanctioned events
  • The charter fee is $50 for a calendar year

Historic Club Charter

These are clubs that believe in the principles of the AMA but do not have a large enough membership roll or are no longer active enough, to maintain a promoting charter.

  • The club must be in existence for 50 years or more (as verified by the AMA)
  • At least five current AMA members must be listed on the application
  • These clubs cannot host sanctioned events
  • The charter fee is $50 for a calendar year

Service Club (Non-Sanctioning) Charter

An AMA service charter is available for organizations that specifically fall under motorcyclists’ rights, military, police, fire or charity. These groups provide a service to the motorcycle community and others through their organization.

  • At least five current AMA members must be listed on the application
  • These clubs cannot host sanctioned events
  • The charter fee is $50 for a calendar year

AMA Charter Automatic Renewal Program

Clubs and promoters are invited to opt into our AMA Charter Automatic Renewal Program.

This program allows us to automatically renew your organization’s AMA charter each year with no action on your part. All Charter eligibility requirements apply. You understand that by agreeing to the automatic renewal of your AMA charter, the annual charter fee (at the then-current rate) will automatically be charged once a year on December 1 to the credit card that you have registered with us unless you alter or cancel your AMA Charter as provided below.

You understand that we will notify you by email at least 30 days before charging your credit card and that you reserve the right at that time to alter or cancel your AMA charter for the coming year. If you wish to alter or cancel your AMA charter you must provide us at least 10 days notice of your desire to cancel at the following address or telephone number:

In the event that you wish to dispute any charge to your credit card made pursuant to the automatic renewal authorization, you agree to contact us first at the address or telephone number above to resolve the dispute. You also authorize us to charge or credit your credit card as needed to account for any undercharge or overcharge errors, or to resubmit a failed or declined charge.
